I'm proud to be a trustee of The Meridale Organisation, sitting at the heart of Sutton-on-Sea for nearly 60 years.
As headteacher of our primary school, I had a very close working relationship with John Monk MBE. John was one of the founding members of Meridale in 1965 and volunteered in the school every week to work alongside children and inspire them in many ways, as well as being my chair of governors for a number of years. Some of those children, well into adulthood, are now trustees themselves, having been nurtured through their experiences at the youth clubs they attended out of school.
I had always promised John, who sadly passed away in 2019, that one of the first things I would do when I retired would be to devote much more of my time to Meridale. For a number of years I had designed, hosted and maintained the Meridale website and supported events.
I became a trustee in 2019 and subsequently chair of the Youth Groups committee in 2021. Some of the initiatives and support I have been involved in include:
- leading a policy group to review and establish a range of operation and guidance policies, vital for the activities undertaken at Meridale
- IT infrastructure development and upgrades, including moving to a server-based network and install of mesh wi-fi system
- refresh and further development of the website
- HR matters
- delivery of bi-monthly Meridale News to parts of Mablethorpe
- developing opportunities for young people through the performing and creative arts, e.g. Play In A Day July 26 2023
